Combatting Bad Drivers
Now, do not stop worrying just yet. While it is unquestionably unfair that good drivers have to pay for the mistakes made by people who have bad driving records and do not obey the laws, there are ways you can combat that.
For one thing, try to find an insurance company which actually rewards you for having a clean driving record. More and more, auto insurance companies are offering such rewards to those of us who practice safe driving. It is partly a way to entice everyone to drive better and partly a way to simply reward those of us who obey traffic laws and keep ourselves and others safe.
You also have to keep doing what you are doing. Do not simply assume that, just because your rates are going to go up anyway, you should stop caring about being safe. Whether it feels like it or not, you are being rewarded for being a good driver — if only by having the satisfaction of not putting any other drivers at risk.
How Traffic Violations Affect Insurance Rates
You have heard that old cliche about how one bad apple ruins the entire bunch, right? Well, guess what? Believe it or not, that old chestnut rings true when it comes to your auto insurance. That’s right, your insurance.
Recent research has shown that even though you yourself might not be getting speeding tickets or other traffic violations, you are paying for all the other people who are not safe drivers, and who choose not to obey the rules of the road.
Now, in a country like the United States, there are tons of drivers, of course — and outright millions of them do not have the greatest driving records. They do not go the speed limit, they do not stop at red lights or stop signs, they do not pause at yield signs — you name it, they do it, and we are paying for it — those of us who actually drive safely and obey traffic laws.
How can you combat that? Well, just keep checking back.
