Basics of multi driver car insurance
Getting a car insurance maybe as easy as counting one-two-three but the scenario is different when you are looking for multi driver car insurance.
All cities and towns require a car insurance if you own a vehicle. The coverage will take care of any personal injury or property damage that may result from an accident you are involved in. You pay the car insurance a certain monthly premium and they agree to cover for any expenses resulting from a road mishap.
Several factors are considered when an insurance company computes for your monthly car insurance premium. One of the factors is driving records so you might be wondering what happens if there are other drivers that should be covered for the same car. There are basically two methods how a car insurance company will compute for the premium:
Insurance companies may based the rates solely on the records of the driver who is considered as the highest risk. Let’s say in a household where a vehicle is shared by a father and a teenage daughter that is a new driver, then the premium will be computed according to the risk of the teenage driver.
Some auto insurance companies will take each individual as a part time driver and calculat thre rates accordingly. Let us say there are two drivers (mother and son) in the household , half of the premium will be based on the risks of the mother and half will be computed on the driving risks of the son. This method usually gets you lower monthly car insurance premium.
If you have multiple cars for multiple drivers, then you may want to ask the car insurance company for some discount since you are giving them good business.
