Basics of multi driver car insurance

without comments

Getting a car insurance maybe as easy as counting one-two-three but the scenario is different when you are looking for multi driver car insurance.

All cities and towns require a car insurance if you own a vehicle. The coverage will take care of any personal injury or property damage that may result from an accident you are involved in. You pay the car insurance a certain monthly premium and they agree to cover for any expenses resulting from a road mishap.

Several factors are considered when an insurance company computes for your monthly car insurance premium. One of the factors is driving records so you might be wondering what happens if there are other drivers that should be covered for the same car. There are basically two methods how a car insurance company will compute for the premium:

Insurance companies may based the rates solely on the records of the driver who is considered as the highest risk. Let’s say in a household where a vehicle is shared by a father and a teenage daughter that is a new driver, then the premium will be computed according to the risk of the teenage driver.

Some auto insurance companies will take each individual as a part time driver and calculat thre rates accordingly. Let us say there are two drivers (mother and son) in the household , half of the premium will be based on the risks of the mother and half will be computed on the driving risks of the son. This method usually gets you lower monthly car insurance premium.

If you have multiple cars for multiple drivers, then you may want to ask the car insurance company for some discount since you are giving them good business.

Auto insurance for high risk drivers

without comments

When you try to buy a car insurance, the auto insurance company will evaluate a number of things which may include your credit history and driving record. Drivers are often classified into the following: Preferred, Standard, and Nonstandard.

Preferred drivers are those with excellent driving records. Standard drivers are people who are average drivers and with good driving records. High risk drivers who are cited for violations often are considered high risk drivers.

There is also a fourth category which basically tags a driver as a person who cannot get an auto insurance.

How do you become a high risk driver

There are several factors being considered by a car insurance company to say that you are a high risk driver. Aside from your driving history they will look into the following:

  • Credit Score – A bad credit score will not automatically cause a declined application for an auto insurance but it can play a big factor when you are trying to acquire one.
  • Young driver – Some states and countries classify young drivers under the high risk category because of little to no driving history. The laws are based on statistics that one of three young drivers are involved in accidents.
  • Lapsed car insurance –  When you forget or intentionally not pay your auto insurance on time and drive without insurance, this may be factored into your monthly premium.
  • Profession – You can also be considered a high risk driver if you have to drive long distance on a regular basis from your home to your work place.
  • Type of car – sports cars may also get be tagged with higher insurance quotes because they are quite expensive to repair.

If you are categorized as  high risk driver, just keep on shopping for better deals with car insurance companies. You might find one which charge you sky high but there will be companies willing to give you a better deal.

Why It Pays to be a Girl on the Road: 2

without comments

female 4Now, let’s take a look at why car insurance companies are so set in giving female drivers a better deal on their car insurance rates.

The reasons are many, and may be quite surprising to a lot of people out there, male and female alike.

Based on readily available, easily discovered statistics, female drivers tend not to drive as much as men, ergo their vehicles have less annual mileage — and that can save money.

In general, women only get involved in half the number of accidents as their male counterparts. Furthermore, the accidents in which women are involved usually occur at far lower speeds, which means that far less damage is done to both bodies and properties.

For that matter, women tend to obey the rules of the road more frequently, we do not speed as much, and most of us pass both portions of our driving tests on the first try. So there!

female 3If you are a woman and you happen to drive, you have certainly heard it all before.

The moans, the groans, the jokes, the stereotypes. You have heard all of the derisive and derogatory comments about women behind the wheels of their cars.

But you know what, ladies? Don’t even worry about. You have all the ammunition you need for retaliation: your car insurance rates.

You see, for all the sneers and jokes the guys out there have to say about female drivers, we have them beat. Every time we get behind the wheel, we are saving money — because no matter what a lot of guys out there seem to think, car insurance companies recognize that we are the safer drivers.

In the Battle of the Sexes: Road Warrior Edition, the guys are winning. As you shall see!

The Payment Options For You For Car Insurance: 2

without comments

payment planNow that we have touched just a little on the payment plans out there, let’s go right into the nitty-gritty of these payment options that are available to you.  Car insurance companies definitely offer a lot of different options to you and I can say from experience that if you are looking for a monthly payment plan, you are able to get it – however, you will be paying more.

Most of the time, your car insurance premium is based off of not only your dedication to making the payments but also to your credit history and a slew of other things that will decide your premium.  If you are looking for the cheapest premium out there though, you may be stuck paying it all up front.

Monthly premiums are generally higher than if you paid your car insurance yearly – the reason?  Your car insurance company wants their money faster.  It really just depends on what suits you though.

Keeping Safe on Winter Roads: 2

without comments

Journalists Test Ford Five Hundred Through SnowFirst thing’s first. You need to keep some provisions in your vehicle at all times when you are traveling in the winter. Warm clothing and blankets are a must, just in case you get stuck on the side of the road or have an accident.

To make sure you have the best visibility possible, you need ice scrapers as well as de-icers.

Food and drink are must haves, preferably bottled water and nonperishable food items. Hot drinks in thermoses or flasks are good too.

You need a cell phone and it should be fully charged. Maps are a must and it would not hurt to have some article of clothing, such as a vest, with reflective visibility stripes.

Keeping Safe on Winter Roads: 1

without comments

driving 1There are a number of reasons why winter driving can be so dangerous. For one thing, the holiday season is right in the thick of things. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year’s, and many more — no matter what individual drivers celebrate, you can make a pretty sure bet that a large majority of them will be traveling somewhere during the winter months. And since flying, especially during this time of year, is both insanely expensive and wildly unpredictable, more and more people are driving.

They risk the snow, the ice, the sleet and hail, the rain, and the early falling darkness — and sometimes, they are in such a hurry to get where they are going, that they may not necessarily be as safe as they should.

Car insurance will only take you so far when such factors converge. You need to be fully prepared to be truly safe when you are driving in the winter.
